Autorouter bus cryptic error......again

I'm trying to autoroute a databus, I created an bus group with the 8 data lines, it crashed......keep getting error

"failed to route a main segment"

Yeah thanks for that useless message.....no idea how to fix it.

So i figure, I'll create a net group, now it routes one bus set to one IC and many other main segment errors.

How hard is it for the autorouter to work correctly? I've followed the help file exactly......do I need to consult my local witch doctor?

I've attached a picture for all to admire the failure.

Any ideas how to FIX IT?

I couldn't tell from the screen shot, but is the component directly across from the Processor an IC? If it isn't, then could it be posssible that Ultiboard needs busses like this to be attached from IC to IC as a first step before it will route the entire bus?

These are just my thoughts and are not presumed to be the answer. (my disclaimer for the day)

I figured out what it was, its a huge oversight on UB part.

When you create the net group with a bus group, it give a SUBSET of options for the group that is outside the parameters of the main net list values......in other works when it routes the bus and you have 10 mil traces but 20 mil for the main pcb, if the two values are not equal then it chokes on it!!

UB should be providing warnings or just plain old use the pcb board net list values instead of a subset.....so its real screwed up, i found this out accidently.....boy it needs a major overhaul....my patience are wearing thin.

I am happy that you got it working. I am also glad that you posted your solution as this will help other if they happen to run into the same situation.  Thanks a bunch for that. I am also in agreement with you that we should have periodic updates as fixes become available especially where major issues have been corrected. Some people have only signed up for a year on the SUU and to wait until that expires before updates/fixes are released is really not good.

Chris,

Can you give me more details of how are you setting up the bus group, net groups and properties?... When I set up a bus AND create a net group with the same nets and assign different group properties, if I try to route I get a DRC error message saying "Incongruent net definitions found for bus MyBusGroup", I want to be able to get the same error as you.

i've done it both way, only assign the nets in the bus group and hit go, from that point it will route the busses first and then attempt the rest. I've tried setting both net group/bus group and I've gotten incongruent error. That has been around since version 8 and still no idea of what it means, how to fix it, or how to workaround it.

its not even referenced as an error in any of the help files!!!!!!!!!!

I've put that suggestion in version 8 but yet, help file doesn't tell what the error is or how to handle it.
