ADC pin meanings

Juss wanted to know that in EWB the 8 bit flash ADC has the pins EOC,SOC and OE.What do each of these pins mean and how do you connect them up so that the ADC works properly?

Place the ADC on the work area and click on it once to select it.  Press the F1 key on your keyboard to startup the help menu, this should povide you with some information.  Also, have a look at the thread below for a example circuit.

Hi,

I found these definitions:

  • EOC: End of Conversion
  • SOC: Start of Conversion (also referred as to SC)
  • OE: Output Enable

Usually if you don't have a MCU controlling the circuit you would tie together EOC with SOC, so the end of a conversion will trigger the next conversion, and most likely usually you want to have OE tied to a V+ supply if you want the circuit to be generating the digital pattern continuously. The case in which you don't tie the signals as mention is when you want complete timing control on your side, but for basic apps you should be fine like this.

Hope this helps,

Nestor
