I'm interested to know if there are many others who would be interested in a Multisim viewer.  I'm hoping engineering see's this and it pricks their design creativity.  In my business, it would be very handy to have a low-cost viewer that our techs could use as they trouble-shoot the board.  It's not cost effective for us to buy complete licenses for techs that will only view, but not change the schematic.  Right now we print out the schematics, but not every value is available (it would be too crowded on the schematic) and the comments are hidden.  Plus you can't zoom in on printed paper.  The competition (read Mentor Graphics) have free viewers available.

 

Some other suggestions:

- The ability to have the values of a part pop up when the mouse is hovered over it. (Should be able to be switched off).

- The ability to group parts so that they can be oriented as a group. (Similar to how it is available in the component wizard).

 

These would be great enhancements.  Anyone else think so?

It would be nice to have  align-bottons to align the parts. Like Ultiboard or LabView!

I have a circuit that simulates very slowly and when I look at the Windows 7 performance of my I7 computer it is using only 2 to 4% of the processor power. In reality it is only using one thread at 50 to 60%. I understand Multisim was written back before multicores were available but I request that this be one of your priority improvements.

 

To show how slow it is running after letting it run over night it has run less than 1 second of simulated time.

 

I have searched the web and found many people frustrated with the Multisim's slow simulation speed and the fact that the processers are 90% idle.

 

Give a slider control for those that want to slow down the simulation for whatever reason.

 

One of my biggest irritants is waiting to see if my circuit change fixed an issue and knowing the software is not even stressing the computer. Years ago I was using Pspice with a single core processor and when you click simulate it used about 95 to 98% of the processors time until it finished the simulation.  Now I have unused power and still have to wait.

 

I hope someone at NI will read this and make multithreading a priority requirement for Multisim.

Please add your comments, the more people that comment the more I believe NI will listen.

 

There are much more footprints of connectors available in Ultiboard than in Multisim. To create a correct circuit diagramm I need the same foortprints in Multisim. There are not enough connectors in Multisim.

It would be very helpful to have all the connectors in Multisim too!

In instance where goal is to move a part a specific number of grid steps, it is useful to 

 

  1. select part by mouse click  Left arrow
  2. hold mouse button down
  3. press arrow key to move in direction of arrow

Ultiboard appears with Win 10 to require several pressings before the part moves one grid.  Seems that the queue for the keyboard is not flushed when left mouse button is depressed to choose part.  Or interupt does not response to first buttom push.

 

After part moves, Ultiboard accepts the next keyboard button press.  Hence, if moved say right to a location and then desire to move up.  Simply press the up arrow and instantly happens.

 

Simple request -  user interface issues of this sort make Ultiboard look like an unpolished program.  Bet fix does not take many lines of code, why not make Ultiboard super intuitive, and then a state of the art tool.

Ideas for NI Multisim software:


1. Schematic: To make an option to lock REFDES during copying circuit to the new sheet.

 

2. Schematic: To add power bias annotation for a components.

 

3. Schematic: To add active probe (see CircuitMaker 2000 solution).

 

4. Schematic: To add operating state annotation for transistors (active, cutt-off, saturated).

 

5. Schematic: To set some min and max limits for a voltage, current or power (they shall be visible in Grapher when you generate the plot). 

 

6. Simulation: To add circuit optimizer with various algorithms: Hooke and Jeeves, Levenberg-Marquardt etc.

For example: I would like to find a resitors values according to voltage limits.

 

7. Simulation: Current Worst Case simulation can not find right solution for a non monothonic functions, so please consider to add Hooke-Jeeves algorithm to find real min and max.

 

8. Simulation: To add Root Sum Squared (RSS) method.

9. Simulation: To add assymetrical tolerances option for a components (resistors, capacitors, voltage and current sources etc.)

 

10. Simulation: To add additional drift tolerance (aging, humidity etc.) option for a components (resistors and capacitors). Please create an option to turn ON and turn OFF additional drifts globally for a whole circuit design and for specific component.

 

11. Simulation: To add component stress analysis but more advanced. The goal is to check maximum dissipated power according to derating power characteristics for resistors according to current operating temperature (TEMP parameter for circuit simulation) and maximum voltage for a components (resistors, capacitors).

 

12. Grapher: To add histogram plots for a Monte Carlo simulation incl. table with data: MEAN, SIGMA, UCL, LCL:

 

  • Normal distribution plot
  • Cumulative distribution plot

13. Grapher: To add option to generate one report for Worst Case EVA, RSS and Monte Carlo.

 

14. Grapher: To add 3D plots (see circuit optimizer).

 

15. Interface: Batched analysis is fine, but it would be a good to see TEMP parameter visible in main window.

 

16. Interface: Fast BOM import for Excel and txt file (incl. some component parameters included value, TC1, max operating voltage and so on). For a quick changes on schematic.

 

17. Simulation: To add Worst Case option to Monte Carlo analysis to check ONLY endpoints values.

 

18. Model: To add a module that can build a component model from characteristics from datasheet (eg. to track output voltage characteristics of voltage regulator and to build behavioral model).

 

19. Model: To improve custom component drawing editor (make it handy and efficient like drawing schematic in Multisim). Current solution takes too much time.

  

The goal of these changes is to focus your product more in professional market where engineers must to find voltage/current limits according to operating temperature limits and component tolerance variation. Your product is good but it might be more oriented to perform these tasks much faster.

I am missing a functionality which is common to few other design tools.

 

Description:

 

1) Select component

2) Type on keyboard: srx 30

3) Result: Selected component is moved relatively 30 units in x direction 

 

This is very efficient way how to position components on the board. You do not have to watch coordinates and carefully = slowly operate with mouse to place component in correct position.

Hi,

 

the idea is that the colors of nets in Multisim will be automatically set for different nets. For example the ground net will automatically be black, the power supply (plus) red and so on... Maybe there is a way to save the user's preference in a config-file?

In Ultiboard it is possible to export a 3D IGES, but it is not possible to import these 3D IGES files in to Solid Edge or Solid Works. It would be a big improvement of Ultiboard if this was possible in the next update.

I'd like to see a panelization option in Ultiboard, perhaps similar to the one in Altium (http://wiki.altium.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=4426668). Preferably with an option to panelize multiple different designs onto a single panel, choice of V-groove's / scoring, break-off tabs, etc.

Instead of identifying errors by double clicking on the Yellow X of entry in DRC Tab of spread sheet, double click on the error circle marker in the workspace to automatically point to the error in the list under the DRC Tab.

 

Sounds simple, should be easy to add feature.

 

This way all errors associated with a section of the layout can be systematically fixed.

We're using Multisim 13 here at the college and I'm using it to create schematics for an engineering text. I would love the following:

 

1. Ability to export schematics in .svg (structured vector graphics) for publication quality results. Screen captures are low res and produce larger files even when reduced to b&w.

 

2. Schematic text able to use subscripts. Perhaps a special character could be used to signal this (like in TeX). For example R_f means "R" with subscripted "f". Currently, I do this with two different text boxes using different font sizes and manually align them. Very inefficient.

I just finished laying out 3 boards and so I have some suggestions to make things easier in the future...

 

1) Add a 'net' column to the SMT Pads and THT Pads tabs, to show which net the pin is attached to.  This is documented here:

It would let me see at a glance whether certain pins are actually connected to the nets they should be connected to

 

2) Add the ability to click on an error circle on the board and have Ultiboard highlight the error in the spreadsheet.  It works the other way around (click on the error in the spreadsheet view and you jump to the error on the board.  But it would be nice to go in the other direction.  I had problems with vias hitting incorrect traces and the spreadsheet details exactly which traces are connected, but I wanted to work on a specific problem on the board and didn't know which spreadsheet error this corresponded to.  This happened a lot.

 

3) Change the highlight color in the spreadsheet.  For some reason on my computer, I can barely see when a row is highlighted in the spreadsheet.  This is the same for Multisim and Ultiboard.  The background in my spreadsheet tab is white, and the highlight color is a very light gray.  If I look at the monitor at an angle so that the light hits it just right, I could see which component was highlighted.  But my neck started to hurt after awhile.

 

4) Have a button to turn on/off all layers at the same time.  I had an 8 layer board, and I alternated between just looking at the layer I was routing on to looking at all layers to figure out where to drop a via.  Double-clicking on each layer got very tedious.

MS current only allows embedding of bmp graphic files.  Quit often it has memory errors with even moderate bmp file sizes, and other often fatal bugs after you've installed a couple bmp graphics.

 

It would be great if it could support more modern graphics file types that can preserve detail without requiring such large file sizes.

 

How about just supporting PNG's at least?

 

This seems to have become worse and worse in recent revisions of MS and UB.  When the spreadsheet is open on a net or part tab in UB or MS every time I touch a net or part or row in the spreadsheet it redraws the screens over and over and over for many many iterations before calming down.  At least 3 times but sometimes as many as maybe 10 or more times.  And it's not very fast either.  It is becoming VERY irritating.

it was cool, if we have MultiSIM 3D virtual breadboard view for myDAQ and Digilent boards like we have for the Elvis boards.

UB differential pair groups should be able to specify how close to equal length is required.

 

There is almost always some amount of length matching error.  Not being able to specify allowed error means you will always get a DRC when you have matched length nets.

1. Increase Width of all traces together in the grapher.

2. Option to choose axis variables in the grapher, for example instead of time in the x-axis, I need some circuit voltage, for this option the simulator should simulate for all circuit variables, and after completion of simulation, the user could change the axis variables as desired. ( In PSPICE it happens the same way, and its useful)

3. When inductors are coupled using Inductor Coupling Block, then those inductors should be assigned dot polarity, same should also be done for the transformer models.

4. When I perform Transient, DC Sweep or Parameter Sweep analysis, all the selected output variables are plotted on the same graph, this is good for most of the times,
but sometimes I desire them to be plotted on 'Different Graph but on Same Graph Page' and I know this can be done by copying the original graph and paste it on the same page and then deselect the unwanted variables, which is tedious work. So there should be an additonal option to plot the variables on 'Different Graph but on Same Graph Page'. Also user should be able to change the bottom axis range of all graph together for easy comparision.

5. Is it possible to incoporate the datasheet of components within the multisim, without visiting manufacturer's webpage?

6. I desire the multisim to create backup of all custom setting made to it (for example Keyboard Shorcuts), so that I could restore it in case of new installation.
