how do I initialize ports using DAQmx VIs?

I installed NI-DAQmx and I can't figure out how to do a simple initilialize of the 3 ports on the PCI-6503 card

to be all outputs?

Or should I have installed the NI-DAQ Legacy drivers/

Have you looked at the shipping examples? One is called Write Digital Channel and another is called Write Digital Port. The direction is done with the DAQmx Create Channel and you can select by line or by port. Though the examples only show a single port or all lines in a port, you can just add additional ports or lines to the channel list. For example, Write Dig Port has Dev1/port0. For all 3 ports, the syntax is Dev1/port0:2.

I must be not looking in the right places.

Where are these examples?  within LabVIEW 8 examples or within NI-DAQ subdirectories?

Would really really appreciate the exact path.

Well, if you open the example finder (from the help menu), you can go to the Browse tab and expand Hardware Input and Output>DAQmx>Digital Generation. The actual files are in Examples>DAQmx>Digital>Generate Values.llb
