current draw of PCI-6225 and PCI-6704

I am putting together a low power data acquisition and control system. For that purpose I am using a desktop pc as a real-time target. As mentioned in the subject of the thread, I am using the DAQ cards PCI-6225 and PCI-6704.

As the system is very low power, I only have limited current available from the 12V rail on my ATX power supply – more specifically 400mA. This should be just enough for the motherboard, and my concern is therefore whether or not the DAQ-cards draw any current from the 12V rail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Martin,

Both PCI-6225 and PCI-6704 needs 12V to operate:

PCI- 6225 Power Requirements

Current draw from bus during no-load condition

+12 V.......................................... 0.15 A

Current draw from bus during AI and AO overvoltage

condition

+12 V.......................................... 0.25 A

PCI-6704 Power Requirements

+12 V...................................................... 70 mA

In your system those two PCI-cards will need min. 220mA at 12V rail to operate, so 400mA at 12V rail for the entire system doesn't seems to be enough.

Thank you for the detailed answer.

I'll just stick with a power supply that has better current capabilities on the 12V rail.
