cDAQ 9172. can i measure frequency for water flow?

I need to measure frequency off a turbine flow meter. Can/how do i do this with the cDAQ9172. This is my first Labview project. thank you.

cDAQ-9172 chassis has two internal counters that can be used for this kind of measurement.  The catch is that you need to install the correct type of I/O module in either slot 5 or 6 to route the incoming signal to the internal counters.  What I/O modules do you currently have installed?  What version of LV are you running?

Thanks for the help. I have 9211, 9206, 9217, 9421/9423, 9472/9474.  I am using Labview 8.2 anniversary edition professional license. Could you please help me out and explain more?

You need to install a digital I/O module in either slot 5 or 6.  The 9241 9421 (dyslexia?) module should work for this purpose.  The manual for the 9172 http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/371747f.pdf has a section dedicated to using the counters.  See here for info on making the internal counters visible in DAQmx terminal controls/constants.  http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/DF48BC8CFFA1F6CB86256F5D007EA11A
