Hi all,
I have recently ordered the cDAQ-9171 and NI 9232 BNC. I was wondering whether the cDAQ-9171 needs an external power source. As I understand it, the cDAQ-9171 is powered by the USB connection. Is this so?
If I indeed do not need an external power source, could you explain to me how the NI 9232 BNC can detect voltages up to 30V, while the supply voltage of the USB is only 5V.
Thank you for your time!
Marc

Hi Marc,
The cDAQ-9171 does not require an external power supply. You can find more specific power requirements in its specifications document: NI cDAQ™-9171 NI CompactDAQ One-Slot Bus-Powered USB Chassis
You can also take a look at the User Manual to know more about these devices and their capabilities: NI cDAQ-9171/9174/9178 User Manual NI CompactDAQ USB 2.0 Chassis
All the best,

This question is solved. Thanks to NI Belgium for calling me.
The reason why this DAQ system can measure voltages higher than 5V is the same reason why multimeters can measure high voltages with a limited power supply.
