access to OleVariant very slow

I am using Delphi 6 to access data from an analog input at high speed (1MHz). Access to OleVariant limits the datarate for continuos access to less than the half. Any suggestion to get the data faster out of the OleVariant (e.g. array referenced by a pointer ??)
