Why can't Win98 detect DAQCard-1200 after system crash?

I am developing a C program (CodeWarrior) that accesses a DAQCard-1200 using NI-DAQ 6.9. If the system crashes while running the program, Windows can not detect the card upon restart, nor when the card is reinserted.

I have many times removed NIDAQ, repaired NIDAQ, removed all NI files using Explorer, cleaned all NI keys from the registry, cleaned out the PCMCIA drivers and DAQ drivers from the Device Manager in Safe Mode, and reinstalled NIDAQ, but to no avail. Reformatting the hard disk and reinstalling Windows, etc, works, but that is a bit much to ask after every crash (which happens about once a day).

I have an HP N3310 Pavilion laptop running Win98 2nd Edition.

Any suggestions?

David,
This is very strange behavior. I have never heard of this happening before. I have had many system crashed, but the cards are always recognized after reboot.
I would recomend you send this incident in to NI tech support (www.ni.com/ask) and start a formal incident with them. This would allow a more indepth dialog that would result in finding the solution to this situation.
