USB-6009 in First Year University EE Lab

I am currently working as a co-op student for a company which creates LabVIEW related curriculums. As part of my co-op i need to complete a work term report, which is essentially a technial report. I am thinking of writing my report on the feasibility of the NI USB-6009 being used for first year university electrical engineering labs.

 

This report needs to include analysis, so I am thinking of analysing the advantages and disadvantages of using the USB-6009 in the labs rather than traditional equipment. Your ideas will really help me get started.

Hello,
I would like to build a VI to read different voltages
the 8 analog inputs and each one was shown in a
different indicator. Is it possible? Example, channel 1 should be read by the meter 1. Channel 2 meter by 2 and so on

It is possible to make an acquisition from multiple channels and then connect the different channels to separate indicators.  One way to do this is to use a Convert from Dynamic Data VI after the DAQ Assistant, and an Index Array Function after that.

In the future could you please open a new thread for any issues unrelated to the original post.  zmnadeem started this thread looking for feedback on the benefits of using the 6009 over traditional instruments.

Disadvantages:

 

No hardware timing for analog output and digital I/O- only software timing so do not expect to generate fast and stable waveforms.

Counter is for input only, not frequency generation.

Limited resolution and sampling rate on analog inputs, low input impedance can present issues.

 

Advantages:

 

Inexpensive, no major finacial loss when a first year student connects an input up to the AC power mains.

 

In my opinion, it would be a good starting point for an introdution to data acquisition. Wish I had such an opportunity in college.

OK! It worked perfectly. Thanks for the info. To know I want to say I am a student of Masters and now I'm at the stage of completing a master's in electrical measurements. The Masters is in Solid State Physics (UFMT). Our job is to assemble a program in LabView for coupled temperature sensor and the USB 6009 DAQ device to acquire resistivity measurements of samples supposedly resistive to 77 Kelvin. The work is well underway. The USB-6009 is responding very well. Thank you hugs and I am available to contribute as well.

I want to thank for the information and quick answers. I did the test again with her VI and worked perfectly. Moreover, all the information that I always try to forun I always have success. I want to continue studying and developing in LabView. Hugs and thank you
