Why does it take 16 background processes to run my USB DAQ? I didn't even load all the $h!+ from the CD.

What processes do you mean?
Is the device working properly?

I see in my System Config (msconfig) the following NI tasks:
NI PSP Servoce Locator
NI Time Synchronixation
NI PXI Resouce Manager
NI Service Locator
NI Device Loader
NI Cinfiguration Manager
NI Application Web Server
NI Domain Service
NI License Server
NI mDNS Responder Service
NI LXI Discovery Service
NI Network Discovery
NI System Web Server
NI Variable Engine
nidevmon
NIUpdateService
NI Error Reporting
What I find troubling is I don't have LXI, PXI,LabVIEW and don't plan on using the DAQ over the web or network. The updater wanted to get updates for LabVIEW that is not even on my machine! The instrument will be in a standalone machine measuring voltage controlled with a ,Net C# program. Which of these services are absolutely necessary?

You can decide for yourself which services you'd like to stop based on their functionality.

The only thing you should need is the NI-DAQmx driver: http://search.ni.com/nisearch/app/main/p/bot/no/ap/tech/lang/en/pg/1/sn/catnav:du/q/daqmx/

Hi Craig,
I got a chance to go to the link you provided but found many choices. I am supporting XP & windows 7 Test stations runing C# windows test programs. Should I install NI-DA!mx Base 3.7.
Thanks
David

Hey David,
I would recommend the latest current version of DAQmx.
As of October 2013 this is DAQmx 9.8: http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/4297/lang/en
