So I'm doing the online course on using NI-DAQmx; however since I don't have the hardware I use the simulation guide provided here http://www.ni.com/tutorial/3698/en/#toc2. But when I test it using a VI, it doesn't work as intended (as attached in picture); in the picture since the analog output frequency is 500 Hz I should see a peak at 500 Hz in the frequency domain plot, but this isn't the case in the picture. Anyone know what's wrong? Maybe I'm using the simulation incorrectly?

Simulated devices are quite limited. It looks like your VI is expecting to output a signal on cDAQ3Mod4/ao2 which is then input to cDAQ3Mod8/ai2. However, input tasks on simulated devices are always read back as a full-scale sine wave with 3% of full scale noise. There's no way to link an output task into an input task, e.g., no "virtual wire" to connect different inputs and outputs on simulated modules.
I think you'd have to use your VI with real hardware to get the expected results.
