NI USB-6218 ERROR -201173

Hi,

I am using a usb-6218 card. It works great at the beginning. But now it shows error 201173 power supply configuration failed after a test example failed.  I have tried to reboot it. It doesn't work.   Could anybody help me out? Thank you very much.

Helen,

The best thing you can try is to use MAX and test panels. If you are still getting the error then power cycle your computer and disconnect / reconnect the USB device. I would try another USB port and another computer if you have one available. If the device is still getting this error and won't work though any of this then the best option is to send the hardware back to NI and have it repaired.

Details for RMA procedures for NI Hardware are here.

Aaron,

Thank you for your suggestions. I have tried  MAX and test panels. It says the same things. I have tried different usb port and computers. It still doesn't work.  I may need to send it back for repair. Do you think what is the possible reason to cause it failed? Thank you.

Best,

Helen,

Helen,

It could be something that you did to the hardware, it could have failed on it's own, it's hard to tell without knowing the circumstances the card has been used in.

Did you try and use different test panels (AI, AO, DIO)? I am guessing from the error the power circuitry is probably either dead or damaged so I would be surprised if all of the funcationality wasn't throwing the same error.

You could have put too much power into the board, you could have had a voltage surge with the computer, it could have just died on it's own because of a part failure. My best recommendation is to look at the specifications for the 6218 and make sure you are not putting too much voltage into the AI/DI  channels, not pulling too much current from AO or DO. Beyond that it's hard to tell.

Hi Aaron,

Please see the attached test diagram. I am using Labview to generate  a serial of triangle signal and then send the triangle signal to a trek amplifier by analog output. The amplifier will supply a high voltage to a test sample.  After a ciruit, The DAQ card will get the test data by ai.   The failed sample could produce high current. But the sample doesn't directly contact with the DAQ card.  In the circuit I have added a diode to prevent the high voltage damage.    Do you think what kind of protectiong circuit I should add to proctect DAQ card?  Thank you very much.

Best,

Helen

Helenz,

The circuitry you use to protect the circuit it completely up to you. I don't generally give recommendations because I'm not familiar enough with your setup and I don't do that much analog design. I just recommend knowing the limits of your DAQ device (found in the specifications) and make sure you don't go outside of them.
