NI PCI-6010 for HP4192A

Hi. I am working with impedance analyzer HP4192A and I will try to interface it with a NI PCI-6010 multifunction DAQ with 37-PIN D-SUB. first of all I would like to know if it is possible and second I would like to know what is the reference of the cable that I need for that purpose. I am pretty sure is a very stupid question but I have no electronic background. I know that I need a IEEE 488 but it seems there are different versions. any information will be appreciated.

Thank you very much

Can you clarify what you mean by interface with the 6010?  You cannot connect a GPIB device to the pins of a DAQ device because you need to send commands via GPIB.  You would not be able to send/receive commands through a DAQ device to/from the 4192A.  Just think of the DAQ device as inputting/outputting analog signals, not transmitting/receiving commands.

Thanks,

Thank you very much for you quick response. I really appreciate your help. So, given that I am totally lost about the topic, what would be right interface card from NI to interface a HP4192A to a computer in order to control and acquire the data from this impedance analyzer.

thank you very much in advance

"what would be right interface card from NI to interface a HP4192A to a computer in order to control and acquire the data from this impedance analyzer."

This would depend on what interface is available on the HP. Does it have a GPIB port? If it does and you could purchase a PCI GPIB card to put in the computer or a NI USB-GPIB controller. See here.

I would suggest you look at the manual for the HP and see what is available.

What application development evironment are you using? (i.e. LabVIEW, C etc.)

Now Using LabVIEW 2019SP1 and TestStand 2019

GovBob is correct.  I looked at the manual for the HP4192A, and they say the connector is HP-IB, which is the same thing as GPIB (they developed the connector and it became industry standard).  Either the PCI or USB GPIB devices will work for communication with the 4192.  If you are using LabVIEW to communicate with it, then you would want to download the drivers for it.  To do this, go to Tools>>Instrumentation>>Find Instrument Drivers... Then select Agilent as the manufacturer and enter 4192 in Addition Keywords and click search.  When you install the drivers, there should be some examples that get installed in hard drive:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW version\instr.lib\Agilent 4192A.  I hope this helps!

Thanks,
