Max sees one of two DaqCard-1200

I have an old dell Lattitude laptop running ni-daq 6.9.3, with 2 DAQCard-1200's, and it works fine, xp sp2, device manager see's both devices, max sees both.  Replacing machine due to screen failure, with a desktop running xp sp3 and ni-daq 6.9.3, device manager see's both fine, but max will only see one at a time, pull one of two, it see's it, swap, see's it, put in both, see's one.  No conflicts in windows with irq's or memory addresses.  Need help desparately.

Hello Steven,

Did you install the NI-DAQ driver before installing the cards?

How did you have two PCI cards in a Laptop? Were they PCMCIA? Did the Laptop have two PCMCIA slots?

Are you using the PCI version of the DAQCard-1200 with the new desktop or the PCMCIA cards with an adapter?

Can you only recognize a card if it is in a specific slot? Or does the slot not matter? Does it only matter that there is only 1 plugged in?

In MAX, do the devices have different names? Do each of the devices show a different serial number in the "Attributes" tab?

What steps have you taken to verify that there are no IRQ conflicts? What BIOS version did the old laptop have, what version does the new desktop have?

Something you might try:

1. Go to Device Manager

2. Right click the devices and select Uninstall

3. Remove cards from the PC

4. Reinstall the 6.9.3 driver

5. Put the cards back in the PC

Thanks,

both cards are pcmcia, and we are moving to a desktop because no new laptops have 2 pcmcia slots, so we are using an adapter in the new destkop.

Installed the drivers before installing the cards.

Card slot does not matter, it will recognize either card in either slot, but not both at the same time.

in MAX, both have the same name and both have 0 as the serial number.

laptop is ancient, has it's newest bios, desktop is newish, has it's latest bios.

device manager shows no conflicts with irq's

Hello Dizzyt,

I think the root cause of this issue is that Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) thinks both cards are the same device because they both have a serial number of 0. They should not have a serial number of 0. The adapter may be causing a disassociation of the serial number from the card.

Can you hook up a separate monitor to your old laptop, put the cards in there, and see what the serial numbers are for the cards? It should be something other than 0.

MAX will remember anything that has been hooked up to it. If the icon is green, it means that the card is connected and ready to go. If the icon for the device is white with a red X, then your device is not being found but rather MAX is just remembering a time when it used to be hooked up.

When you say that it doesn't matter what card or what slot, are you getting a green icon every time? What is the status of the icon when you try each of the following configurations?

Card 1 - Slot 1

Card 2 - Slot 1

Card 1 - Slot 2

Card 2 - Slot 2

If it is green in every configuration, then somehow the serial number is getting disassociated from the device. MAX should remember every unique device hooked up to the computer. Do you have any other adapters you can try, possibly from a different brand?

Thanks,
