Mass termination conversion from NI USB-6251 to NI USB-6361

Solved!
Go to solution

I have a custom cable that attached to the mass termination version of a NI USB-6251 which uses a 68 pin SCSI connector.  I need to change to use the mass termination version of the NI USB-6361 which uses a 68 pin VHDCI connector.  It's not clear if NI still makes an adapter that will allow me to use my existing custom cable to connect to the 6361 box.   Any good solutions to this?

NI sells a bunch of VHDCI-SCSI cables. Depending on your pinout and how the other end of your custom cable, you may be able to use one of these,

I appreciate the suggestion - I have looked at the cables that NI provides.  Unfortunately, they are designed to connect to NI accessories, so the gender of the SCSI cable(s) is incorrect for my needs.  I need the "old style" SCSI cable to be male (like the 6251), and the cables are all female as far as I can tell.

Maybe 653x Cable Adapter? But seems like it is no longer available for sales.

So, if you can build a male-male SCSI converter, you will be able to use it, like this https://www.winford.com/products/cbhpd68.php

The question boils down to what the short-term workaround and the long-term solution would be.

It's funny that you mentioned the Winford products.  Prior to your post, I called them and they don't have a standard product that will do what I want, but they are willing to build custom converters.  Very helpful person on the phone.

I found the following:

3ft VHDCI 0.8mm 68-pin Male to SCSI-3 HPDB68 Male Cable (cableleader.com)

We purchased this and it seems to work properly.  Figured I'd post this to save someone else some time.
