Installing NI-DAQmx 16.1.0 made Windows network tray icon disappear

Solved!

So, I installed NI-DAQmx 16.1.0 on my Windoze 8.1 machine.  Now the system tray icon for my network connection is gone.  Any thoughts on why and how to fix?  Why is it always some stupid, random sh!t like this every time I deal with NI "software"?

Have you also done any Windows updates? You should be able to hide/show icons by going to the Taskbar properties and customizing the Notification Area.

I had just done the Windows updates prior to installing NI-DAQmx.  I checked the settings for the notification area and all was as expected - except the network icon was missing.  However, after installing NI-VISA, I had to restart Windoze - again - and the icon returned.  Go figure.  I'm not sure whether NI or Windoze is to blame; at this point it is moot.
