I have a pre-WIndows XP DAQCard AI-16E-4, can it work with Windows XP & How?

We have an older Multi-function DAQCard AI-16E-4 (16 inputs, 500 kS/s, 12-bit Multfunctional I/O) and we want to hook up to a Windows XP-equipped Sony Vaio with the appropriate PCI slot.  Will that work?  The disks we have for software installation are Windows 98 and won't install.  I tried down-loading the drivers, but the install requires the 8.0.1 runtime environment--I installed that and it seemed to work and reboot, but the driver install still fails saying I need that runtime environment.  Is this a losing battle or worth fighting on?

Hello Todd,

To determine the appropriate driver for use with your card and operating system and ensure compatability you can reference the Data Acquisition Installation/Configuration Troubleshooter.  The DAQCard AI-16E-4 (NI 6041E) is only supported by the Traditional NI-DAQ driver, however it can be used in Windows XP.

I recommend uninstalling any DAQ drivers currently on your machine and starting fresh by downloading Traditional NI-DAQ 7.4.1.   You may however want to also take into account which software you plan to use to program your application.  Version 7.4.1 will install support for LabVIEW 7.0 through LabVIEW 8.0 as well as LabWindows/CVI and other text-based programming languages.

Hopefully this helps.

Regards,
Jennifer O.
