Global Virtual Channel in Max and Shared Variable

I have two machines, remote and local. The remote machine has MAX running with two global virtual channel, V and I that is  supposed to broadcast V adn I to the network.  On the local machine, I am trying to write a simple program to get the values from the remote machine through shared variable, but when I set up the variable, I don't even see the remote machine, even though I can see it on the network.  How do I get it to work?  Beside shared variable is there another way?  I am using a compact DAQ btw.  Thanks!

Your first step should be to confirm that the variable is indeed visible on the network. Lauch the Distributed System Manager (tools --> Distributed System Manager), and see if you can view the remote computer under remote systems. If not, can you add it to local systems using the IP address?

When you are unable to see the remote machine, is this in the binding configuration for the variable?
