Connecting Proximity sensor to ni 9401

Hello everyone.

I want to connect a three wire proximity sensor to ni9401 to get the signal.

There are three wires on the proximity sensor-blue black and brown.

I am using a ni 9923 connector.

Please tell me how to make the connections.

Since you didn't provide any information about your proximity sensor, I can't say for sure, but in my experience proximity sensors usually output analog signals, not digital.  You are using a 9401 - which is a digital card.

You might be able to get it to work if all you want to know is "is something there or not" but that's it.

I think you need to energize one of the wires, read a second, and the third is common voltage.

Thank you for your reply.

I am trying  to sense a metallic plate ( which is rotating) to measure the it RPM.

I tried to connect the sensor in the 9923 connector as

 brown wire: terminal 14.
 Red wire: terminal 16.
 Black wire: terminal 1.

Where

red-positive

black-negative

is this connection right to get pulses from the device.

How can anyone possibly know? You have not provided the make and model, a link to the datasheet, or much more than some colors.

The Proximity Switch we are using is

Type: ST18-3008NA

U: 6-36VDC

I: 200mA

Sn: 8mm

NPN

Is it possible to connect this proximity switch to ni 9401 through ni9923 connector.

can you tell us the manufacturer - googling the model did not bring up a link to the data sheet.

Thanks
