Connecting Futek Load Cell LTH-350 to NI 9327 module

Solved!
Go to solution
Dear all,

I am about to purchase FUTEK load cell (LTH350) and later, will pair with the NI 9327 module. NI 9327 module comes with RJ50 connector while FUTEK might not be provided with RJ50 connector. So I plan to wire the  cable to NI 9949 RJ-50 screws to terminal accessory, then connect the RJ-50 to NI 9327. Futek cell comes with 4 conductors.

My queries:

1) Is it possible/ok  to connect FUTEK load cell to NI 9327  using this configuration?

2) If yes, how to properly   way of wiring configuration  between the load cell and NI 9949 pin ?(img;futek wiring code & ni9949 pin)

FUTEK_LTH325%20WIRING%20CODE

ni-9949

3) Also just wondering, is it ok to use RJ45 connector for rj50 slot NI 9327 module?

Really appreciate for your advices and helps.

Thanks

Hi am_h,

For your questions, my opinions are as follows:

1)It's ok to connect FUTEK load cell to NI 9237 with NI 9949, as NI 9949 is an accessory for use with quarter-bridge sensors and we can use an RJ-50 cable to connect the NI 9949 to NI9237.

2) According to NI 9949 RJ-50 User Guide,'NI 9949 routes each pin of the RJ-50 receptacle to the corresponding screw terminal, where 1–10 represent the pin and terminal numbers and S represents the shield of the RJ-50 connector'. So pin 1 of the NI 9237 RJ-50 receptacle connects to terminal 1 of the NI 9949 screw-terminal connector and so on.

A diagram of NI 9237 device pin assignment is attached below. You can refer to NI 9237 datasheet to wire the load cell to NI 9949 pin.

For example, Excitation should be wired to pin 6.

Furthermore, the NI 9237 includes remote sensing to compensate for this gain error. Connect remote sense wires to the points where the excitation voltage wires connect to the bridge circuit.

As for NI 9237 datasheet and NI 9949 RJ-50 User Guide, see:

http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/374186a_02.pdf

http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/372278b.pdf

3)As the RJ50 connector uses one more pair of signal wires for a total of 10. Using RJ45 cable with the NI 9237 is not recommended because it can physically damage pins 1 and 10 on the device.

Let us know how you get on.

Best regard

Eriksen
