Cable assembly for NI-9264 D-SUB

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello, I am looking to purchase the NI-9264, I have gone through the specs of the DAQ and need to purchase that. However I am a bit concerned about the connection outside the DAC, through a cable to a proper connector on a test board. Is there a dedicated cable that will perfectly fit the D-SUB-37 connector on the DAQ and a particular connector (Model name and PCB footprint) that I have to use on the PCB to be able to connect the other end of the cable?

As per the accessory guide, NI-9264 with 37 pin DSUB uses a DSUB Male to Female cable

To answer your question, since D-SUB connectors are universal (like USB), you can purchase it from any manufacturer with 37 pins and the right male/female gender and it should work with the D-SUB cable that NI sells.

Thank you,

I checked the SH37F-37M and DB37F-37M (SH37M-37M and DB37F-DB37M)

I could not find a lot of info about either cables. Is there a place where I can look for more info? For example, I need to make sure that the female connector of this cable does not have the hex nuts which wont work with the DAQ module since it also has nuts. Other thing is how do either of these cable as well as the length of the cable affect the signal quality?

Lastly, I have found this PCB socket for the cable to be mounted on the board, will these (Female straight connector and Female Right angled connector) work?

The dimensional drawings of respective cables show only screws on both ends and not hex nuts.

Since these cables are recommended by NI, I would not doubt about compatibility (like the hex nut and screw question you had)

Whenever possible, go for shielded cable, but the actual signal quality also depends on the signal itself (like high frequency or low amplitude, source impedance etc.,)

Regarding the DSUB connector, yeah, both should work, as those are 37-pin female (9264 has male DSUB and cables are F-M which are just extension cables)
