Hi, David,
I am not sure I fully understand your application, but I will try to offer some suggestions. If you are simply interested in measuring torque, you may be better off using data acquisition and signal conditioning hardware. For more information on considerations for measuring torque, please refer to the following tutorial:
Developer Zone Tutorial: Load, Force, and Torque MeasurementsIf, however, you need to control the movement of your valve and acquire information such as position, you would be better served with a motion control system. For more information on motion control, please see the following documents:
Developer Zone Tutorial: The Fundamentals of Motion Control SystemsDeveloper Zone Tutorial: Designing a Motion Control ProjectTo make sure that we best understand your project, I recommend that you contact a National Instruments Technical Sales Representative at 1-800-433-3488 to discuss your application in more detail and to determine which National Instruments hardware and software may work for your application.
Best wishes!
Kind regards,
