Hi all,
I want to connect a 7852R FPGA card with an SCB68 box.
The recommended cables for the MIO or DIO connectors are the SHC68-68-RMIO, -RDIO cables.
For both connectors there is also the possibility to use a SH-68-C68-S.
I have spare DIO cables and used them on the MIO connector. This blows the 5V fuse on the device!
The MIO and SH-68-C68-S works fine.
What is the exact difference between the MIO and DIO cable, if I don`t look at the shielding.
Is there any chance to get detailed information about the pin assignment of these cables?
In the support area here I found some jpg`s and anwsers like "SH68-C68-S cable has a one to one pin assignment.", but is there a official document?
Greetings,
Henning

Hello HenningP
you can see the pinout on page 54 of the document
NI R Series Multifunction RIO User Manual
On page 17 you can see the recommended cable for each connector
For connector 0 you have to use and MIO cable, because there are analog signals to route in the cabele.
For connector 1+2 you have to use the DIO cable, because only digital signals will be routed.
All three cables have an one to one pin routing.
The most of all other NI cables do the same.

Hi Alex,
thanks for your answer. But I already had the information about the pin assignment of the card itself.
There is definitely a difference between the MIO and RIO cable in the pin assignment. That`s the information I need.
Maybe all the DGND pins (pin1-26) are interconnected inside the cable?!
That would explain the issue.
Greeting,
Henning

Hello HenningP,
there is a difference, in the mio cable some pairs for shielding could connect togehter so it could happen´t,
if you use the wrong cable on the wrong connector then the fuse could detect this.
So please use the allowed cable for port so the fuse should break.
What cable have you spared and connected to the MIO port?
In the RDIO and SH-68-C68-S Cable every DGND has its own wire.

Hi Alex,
I used the SHC68-68-RIO cable on a MIO connector, this blows the on device fuse.
Now I checked the the DGND pins off the RIO cable, they are all interconnected!
So it shortcuts the +5V and the DGND (and all other lines, pin1 to 26) on the MIO connector.
You wrote: "In the RDIO and SH-68-C68-S Cable every DGND has its own wire."
Maybe you are right, but they are connected together inside the RIO cable.
I think NI should provide more detailed information about their cables to avoid such problems.
Furthermore there is the SH68-C68-S cable wich can be used on both, MIO and DIO, connectors.
Therefore I suggest all cables are a one-to-one connection.
Greetings,
Henning

Hi Alex,
I'm interested in using the SHC68-68-RMIO in an instrument we're developing. It would be used to carry digital and analog signals from a custom board we're designing. This cable seems like a good option because it can carry so many signals in one cable and has the individually shielded sub-sets.
Because I'm not using this cable with an NI board, I need to be sure not to put too much current through these lines.
So, finally, my question... what is the gauge of the wires in this SHC68-68-RMIO cable?
For the SCH68-68-EPM cable, I found a diagram online (which I've attached below). If I could have the same thing for the RMIO cable, that would be perfect. At a minimum, I just need to know the gauge of the analog input and analog output lines.
Thank you for your help!
Bryan

Hi Bryan,
i can´t found a specification how many ampere a wire or the cable can master.
The wires are 30 AWG 7/38 and 26 AWG 19/38. I hope this helps to find the current limits.

Thanks Alex
One follow-up question. There are 68 conductors in this cable. How many are 30 AWG, and how many are 26 AWG?

Hi Bryan,
32 x 30 AWG 7/38
2x 26 AWG 19/38
