Z-axis control of waveform plot

This has probably been asked before but I can't find any reference to it on this forum.  I want a z-axis control like the old fashioned oscilloscopes.  The Z axis control would change the intensity (and/or color) of each segment of the plot.  Possibly the AppendY method would be changed to accept a tuple or a new method, AppendZ could be called with the AppendY method?

I have sucessfully implemented the custom plots class (I am using C#).  Problem with custom plots is that I don't see how to correlate the list of points with the original plot history.

Any help is appreciated.  This MUST have been asked before.

We are working on this issue privately via service request. We'll just continue corresponding that way.
