Visual Studio becomes nearly unresponsive after updating DAQmx

Solved!
Go to solution

This happened to me once before.  I updated DAQmx and my CPU fan and processor usage goes up and down and VS becomes very unresponsive.  I ended up doing a phone tech support ticket and the issue was resolved by turning off some security feature or something.  I tried searching the forum but I didn't see anyone else with this issue.  Any ideas?

VS 2010 (yeah I couldn't let go of the installer)

MS 2015

DAQmx 17.0

Thank you.

Hello,

Do you happen to have that Service Request number? I can pull the notes from that ticket if I have that.

In addition, are you activating Measurement Studio through a volume license server?

Hello.

Your query made me learn how to look up past support requests and I found it. I'm stuck in VS 2010 due to the installer fiasco.  I have a license for VS 2017 and MS 2015 so I'm going to take the plunge but I'm having a colleague try the installer builder on his machine first because I don't want to enter into some period of time where I am unable to deploy my current project if changes are required.

This is the solution to my problem:

Hi Michael, It does look like a local license. So the options that I see moving forward are either uninstalling NI LM, reinstalling Measurement Studio but being sure to make sure that the box for Visual Studio Integration is unchecked, or install Visual Studio 2014 or newer as Integration is not included in these versions. To Uninstall NI License Manger we can do the following: Navigate to C>Program Data> National Instruments>MDF>Product Cache>NI License Manager4.1>nilm64 Once you click on this there should be an option to remove Then we can reinstall NI LM 3.7: http://www.ni.com/download/ni-license-manager-3.7/3598/en/ Next would be to uninstall and reinstall Measurement Studio making sure that during the installation we uncheck the box for Visual Studio Integration: http://www.ni.com/download/measurement-studio-2015/5333/en/ Finally if we upgrade to a version of Visual Studio 2014 or newer then the integration is not included. After the integration is not included that is when the document that I sent comes in handy. http://www.ni.com/product-documentation/54629/en/ I also wanted to pass along the CAR number 653181, like I mentioned this is a high priority known issue that we are working on fixing. Hi,

Did you already try to revert back to NI License Manager 3.7 like last time, or what version are you on?

I just did that and it is not running slow anymore.  It also looks like I can develop in both environments for a little while which is great.

I needed to upgrade some PXI software and the installer forced me to go to license manager 4.4.  When I try to uninstall it, it wants to uninstall a bunch of other stuff.  How can I revert back to 3.7 now?

EDIT: I was able to uninstall it by running the installer program in the ProgramData folder.
