Uninstall NI-VISA 2.6.0 Runtime

I'm trying to install NI-VISA 5.3. It gave me the error below:

Unsupported version of NI-VISA detected
A version of NI-VISA that is not supported on this operating system has been detected. You must cancel this installation and uninstall the older version before continuing. Visit ni.com/info and enter the Info Code CleanVista for more information.

I then tried to uninstall NI-VISA 2.6.0 Runtime. The uninstallation appears to proceed normally, but when it finishes the NI-VISA 2.6.0 Runtime is still installed.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on my workstation.

Hi KurtTomlinson,

How are you attempting to uninstall the NI-VISA 2.6 runtime? Try running the uninstaller from the command line, this should provide us with some more information on any errors occuring during the uninstall.

As VISA 2.6 is not offically supported on Windows 7, which could be the reason you are experiencing this issue.

If you are not able to remove the VISA 2.6 run-time engine, try upgrading it to a newer, supported version, found below.

I also had a lot of trouble uninstalling NI-VISA 2.6 from Windows 7 x64.  I had installed it per recommendations to get visa32.dll installed so that I could automate using the Python library "pyvisa".  I used the Control Panel to uninstall NI VISA, but it would hang about 2/3 of the way through, even if left running overnight.  The solution was to re-run the NI-VISA 2.6 installer (link below) and select the top most item to choose to make none of the features available.  This was successful even though the "Programs and Features" area of the control panel still showed "NI-VISA 2.6.0 Runtime" in the list.  I was then able to install NI-VISA 5.0.3.

Hi Natanael,

I am having same kind of problem and the link you provided is broken...

I am trying to install LV 8.0.1 on Win 7 32bit and my VISA 3.4 does not get installed. It is not in the LV library nor in the folder where it is supposed to be. Removing it using Control Panel does not help - when trying to install new VISA 5.4 it gives me the same message about "unsupported version of NI software detected"...

I will appreciate any help, please.

Thanks.

Hi Alex,

LabVIEW 8.0.1 does not have a version of NI-VISA that is supported on Windows 7. The latest supported version of VISA for LabVIEW 8.0.1 is 4.3 (http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/CF4279A34F855AB186257B1F00003B82), which is only compatible with Windows Visa and earlier. This is most likely why you are seeing the errors.

Unfortunatly there isn't a solution to this other than to upgrade to a more recent version of LabVIEW that is compatible with a Windows 7 compliant version of NI-VISA.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
