DAQmx offers some compressed I/O routines that can really speed up applications like streaming to disk. The
NI-DAQmx Professional Tools page has some free example programs like
Data Compaction for High-Speed Streaming to Disk Examples that show both how to do the compressed read and log it to a file and also how to read from the file and uncompress the data for display/analysis later.
