computer recognizes pci IMAQ board as pxi

Hi,
I have a computer that has a DAQ-MX baord installed. I attempted to add to it a PCI-1428 IMAQ board, and windows doesn't install it - it says it hasn't found the correct software for it. MAX sees it as an identified PXI system.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Danielle

Hi Danielle,

Have you installed the Vision Acquistion Software on that computer?  That is the driver that is used with the IMAQ cards.  Once you have that driver installed then the card should show up in MAX as an IMAQ device.  I hope this helps.

Have a great day,

GG

Hi,

I didn't reply before because the issue became irrelevant, but now I have the same problem with a different computer. The board is installed correctly, and at startup I get the message "initializing your IMAQ devices" with the NI logo, but when I open MAX I get the motion module (which is also installed in the computer) and an unidentified PXI card.

IMAQ 2.5.1 is installed. The camera is a DT4000 DuncanTech CCD. I am using Windows XP.

I would appreciate any help with this problem.

Thanks,

Danielle

Hi Daniellle,

Do you also have a 1428 installed in this computer?  Or is it another IMAQ board?  One thing to try is installing a later version of the Vision Acquistion Software.  Once you have the later version installed the board should show up as an IMAQ Device under Devices and Interfaces in MAX.  If the card still isn't showing up could you look in Windows Device Manager to see if the card is showing up there?  If it is, does it have a yellow question mark next to the card, or does it have the NI icon?  Keep me posted.

Gavin

Hi,

Thank you for your answers.

It works now, after restarting the computer about five times, MAX recognizes the card and it works (part of the restarts were to restore communication). I am a little afraid to turn off my computer now, for fear it will stop working! I checked a number of times, all the cables are screwed tightly. The card is always recognized by the computer (no yellow symbol, at startup the window "initializing your IMAQ devices" shows up). MAX did not recognize it (sometimes) and sometimes MAX recognized it but didn't perform an image acquisition because it timed out.

Do you have any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks,

Danielle

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear that you are still running into difficulties.  You shouldn't see that type of behavior.  If the device shows up with the National Instruments Icon in the device manager then it should also show up in MAX.  Now that the card has been recognized in MAX though it shouldn't be a problem recognizing it again.  I don't really know what would cause the behavior you are seeing.  You may want to try the card in another computer to see if this problem persist.
Let me know if the card stops working again.

Gavin

Hi saboco, you may want to try posting a new thread to the Multifunction DAQ forums since those involve completely different hardware drivers.  I hope this helps!
