Why can't I see my Basler piA2400-17gm in MAX

I have a new HP laptop running Windows XP Pro that is connected to a Basler Pilot 5MP camera (piA2400-17gm). I can see images using the Basler supplied software so I can confirm the camera is interfacing to the computer. I have MAX version 4.6.0f1 and it has software versions of 4.3.0 and NI vision 9.0 which includes 'Image Processing and Machine Vision' 9.0.049153 and 'Services' 9.0.0.49153 and have attempted to follow the trouble shooting instructions relating to GigE cameras and MAX but have had no success. Can someone please provide more specific direction and/or troubleshooting advice.

Hi TJK,

I suspect some sort of IP address mismatch. Is the camera setup in the default, out-of-the-box configuration (with DHCP and Link-Local-Addressing)? Normally we recommend having it set like that and letting the PC use link-local-addressing as well.

It is possible the Basler software and camera were set up with forced IP addresses. I'd check with Basler's IP configuration utility and see how the camera is configured.

Eric,

It turns out we had to download the vas2009_downloader.exe; it appears this software installed missing elements of NI-IDAQdx; it is now installed and we can see the camera in MAX but it is selected MAX Crashes. Any ideas?

To be more specific...

-The camera was functioning properly prior to running MAX (could be detected and used in Basler's Pylon software)

-The camera is in its default format, IP address is determined automatically and is not forced

-Upon launching MAX, the device is detected and populated in the Devices and Interfaces sub menu under IMAQdx (2 devices originally showed up, cam0: Basler <camera info> and cam1: Basler Drivers.  After uninstalling the Pylon software at the request of a service engineer, cam0 is all that remains)

-Selecting the device in max creates a long hourglass pause, but the snap and grab buttons are eventually usable

-Clicking either snap or grab results in a timeout

-After running MAX the camera is no longer functioning properly in the Basler software (shows up as a device but the image aquisition is white)

-Another apparently completely random side effect is the shut down of my Telus internet stick (used only for internet connection, not related to any devices in MAX)

After contacting NI support regarding the issue, some basic steps were taken to diagnose the problem.  No progress has been made, but all security settings on Windows XP have been shut off (firewall, virus, etc), the Basler supplied software was completely removed to negate potential driver conflicts, and we're in the process of repairing the IMAQdx software.  Next step is to remove the IMAQdx software and do a complete re-install.

Hi Leddy,

The extra camera you are seeing when the Basler software is installed is likely because their software installs a DirectShow wrapper around their Pylon driver, allowing you to use their camera in DirectShow applications. Starting in Vision Acquisition 2009, IMAQdx is able to acquire images from DirectShow as well, which means you will see that Basler DirectShow interface. I don't think it should cause any problems having it there though, but you can disable that from Basler's installation if you have no need for it.

I'd be interested in finding out more about your system's network configuration. If you could paste in the contents of "ipconfig /all" and "route print" from the command line that might help.

The second camera could be exactly what you're describing, however selecting that specific option under the IMAQdx devices menu (cam1:Basler) causes MAX to shutdown completely.  Additionally, the menu selection no longer exists after the removal of the Pylon software.
