How do you set the trigger software in VBAI using a USB Camera?

It is camera specific. Check out the Camera attributes or call the camera manufacturer to see where the SW Trigger feature can be enabled. Not all cameras support this, so it may not be available for your camera. Here's a sample of how to access it for a Basler camera:
