To add a text overlay to an AVI file, do I have to connect the text overlay function to the merge overlay function?

I'm having trouble figuring how to connect these two functions to merge a text overlay to an AVI file. Could not find any examples of the merge overlay function to guide me.

John,

Right now the text overlay is parallel to the image grab.  Since you don't know which one will occur first, you will get erratic results from the overlay.  You would be better off connecting the image input of the text overlay to the image output of the grab function.

You may also need a color (RGB) image input for the destination of the merge overlay function for it to work properly.

I've done something similar, but I am getting 3 versions of the video on the screen (and in the .avi) when I add the merge overlay into my VI. I made a sequence to make sure things so in the correct order (this may be overkill).

Also, I can't get the Y800 Uncompressed codec to work.

Thanks!
