NI 1408 Error -1074397178 when snapping in LabVIEW

At the bottom of the following link, there is a reference to a document whose title is exactly related to an error I am encountering: "NI 1408 Error -1074397178 when snapping in LabVIEW".  Unfortunately I cannot find that document.  Can someone please provide me a link to that document?

I found my answer: I had to replace the imgGetBitsPerComponent.vi with a modified one that was offered by one of the other members of the Discussion Forum.  It was hard to locate the answer though: I was unable to search using the error code itself.

Hey 2and4,

I remember that some others were also having some other errors similar to yours with other functions with an older version of the NI-IMAQ driver software and the Really Old 1408. I know that all of those issues were fixed in the most recent version of the NI-IMAQ software (which comes with the NI Vision Acquisition Software). You can download and install this newer version of the software at the following link: http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/webcategories/85256410006C055586256BE60070436D?opendocument&node=1....

This is actually a better resolution than replacing that file that you found. This fixes not only your original issue, but also any other issues you might see by using the older version of the IMAQ driver. I hope this helps and makes sense. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. Thanks, and have a great day.

Regards,
DJ L.

DJ L., Thanks for your help.  Are you sure that that issue was resolved in the latest version of NI-IMAQ?  I had actually downloaded the latest version to begin with (evaluation mode) and I ran into that error and thought it could be because I did use the latest version while using LabVIEW 8 instead of 8.2.  Then I uninstalled those latest copies and downloaded older versions and got the same results (meaning the same error).  The problem got resolved once I replaced that one VI.  My guess is I would have to do that with the latest version of IMAQ too.

If I run into any other errors I'll download the latest version of IMAQ.

Hey 2and4,

I am positive that the error you are seeing was fixed, as well as some others that were specific to the 1408. I tested that VI and some others that were giving an error specific to the 1408, and the newest version of NI-IMAQ did fix them. The newest version of NI-IMAQ at the time of this post is (Vision Acquisition 8.2.2) NI-IMAQ 3.7.1. I am assuming that you are using something like 3.5.1 or earlier. The errors that were from using the 1408 were being caused by functions trying to do non 8-bit functions, but the 1408 can only do 8-bit, so the functions weren't forcing it to use 8-bit values, and thus causing an error code. This was fixed since the version that you are using, and you don't have to upgrade since it is working for you, but I always recommend upgrading to the newest version of the driver when possible, because things get fixed and improved. Plus it only takes a few minutes to download and upgrade, so it is well worth it in the end, as it can save you time and sometimes headaches.

Good luck in all your applications, and have a great day.

DJ L.

Thanks!  You're right: the latest version of IMAQ available for download and evaluation on ni.com is 3.5.1.  That's the one I was using.

Hey 2and4,

Actually, the latest version of the NI-IMAQ driver on ni.com is 3.7.1 (at the time of this post), Not 3.5.1. NI-IMAQ 3.5.1 is old (at the time of this post), and 3.7.1 is Newer than 3.5.1, hence the higher version number. The NI-IMAQ 3.7.1 driver is now included in the Vision Acquisition Software, and the current version of the Vision Acquisition Software at the time of this post is 8.2.2.  You can find the Current Versions of Vision software if you go to ni.com then click on the Drivers and Updates link, then go to the Browse by... and click on the Current Software Versions link. When you get to that page, click on the Vision Link (second from the bottom). This will take you to the page where you can download all the most current versions of the Vision and Vision Acquisition software packages. When you click on the Vision Acquisition Software (8.2.2), it will show you that NI-IMAQ 3.7.1 is included in the download. NI-IMAQdx and NI-IMAQ I/O are some of the other driver software that is included in the NI Vision Acquisition Software.

DJ L,

When you go to "Drivers and Updates", choose "Vision" for Product Line, "Vision Acquisition Software" for Software, "8.2.2" for Software Version, "Windows XP" for Operating System and hit "Go", it takes you to a page which says "No results were found for your search."  That does not happen when you pick 8.2.1 which is why I thought 8.2.2 was not available yet, hence all my problems.

When I manually searched for "Vision Acquisition Software Version 8.2.2" I found what I needed.

Thanks again for your help.

Hey 2and4,

I believe that they were updating the website before, because I saw that to the first day it was released. They were probably just in the process of including the link to it on the Current Drivers and Updates link. It should be updated and ready to go now. Good luck in all your applications.
