Looking for a low-profile quad port ethernet adapter

Solved!

Hi all,

We are looking for a low-profile quad port ethernet adapter that works with the NI high-performance GigE driver. We used  to buy Intel PRO/1000GT quad-port server adapter, but these do not seem to be available anymore. Are there any alternatives ? Or any other normal height quad-port adapters as alternative for the specialised framegrabber adapters from NI or Advantech ?

Hi,

Support for third-party cards is not officially maintained due to inability to track hardware or firmware changes that could affect compatibility. Additionally, recent versions of IMAQdx have included redesigned generic network support that should decrease the performance difference between the speciality driver and the generic one, meaning you could just use Intel’s driver.

That said, the NI PCIe-8236 is based off an Intel i350 NIC (though a two-port variant, not four). Intel sells an i350-based card that has 4 ports and is low profile. The INF file for the NI high-performance driver doesn’t include the generic i350 Intel NIC, but I think if you force the association the driver should work. You’d have to test it yourself though.

Hope this helps,

Eric

Hi Eric,

We happened to have a i350 NIC and I tried it with the 2017 version of Vision and Acquisition Software.

It works! The NI driver automatically recognised the NIC and installed the driver without asking questions...

Thank you very much for your help!

GWO.
