will lookout communicate with softlogix

Will Lookout correctly communicate with an A-B softlogix 5 engine?

If so, will it also correctly handle the softlogix data type known as 'structures'?

Thanks in advance for any help

We do not officially support the AB Softlogix 5 engine. From what I read on the Allen Bradley website, it is compatible with all plc5 applications.

Therefore, Lookout's PLC5 object may work with this engine. I highly doubt it supports the additional datatypes, functions, instructions or extended memory applications.

You may have to try this out.

Also, AB's website says you can use RSLinx (which provides an OPC interface) with SoftLogix. This would be another option to use RSLinx and then the OPCClient Object in Lookout.

However, I am not sure how/what the "structures" datatype would translate to in the OPC interface of RSLinx.

Regards,

Khalid

You are correct, sir, on both counts - once RSLinx was configured (DH+ link), any PLC-5 type designated in the driver object works correctly to link to the Softlogix5 engine.

Structures though, however entered, do not work.

I also note that the ASCII data type is not supported.

Thank you.

It would be interesting to try. It might save us a KT card or three.
