Unable to install RHEL 6.3 on NI PXIe-8840

Solved!
Go to solution

I'm trying to install RHEL 6.3 WS on NI PXIe-8840 controller. After I select the boot device and press <Enter>, the system is getting stuck and displaying message as shown below. When I removed the harddisk from the controller and plugged into my desktop, it got installed without any problem. After successful installation, I placed the hard disk in my NI controller. Again, it got stuck at the same message.

Has anyone faced such a problem before, with NI Embedded Controllers??

It looks like that's the bottom of a kernel backtrace due to some USB 3.0 hardware, can you try to get the top of the trace? It superficially looks like this issue reported on the ASUS P9D WS mainboard: https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1003831

Try disabling the USB 3.0 ports on the controller from the BIOS and reinstalling, and report back what you find.

If the option is not in the BIOS configuation screen, you can edit the kernel boot parameters to include the "nousb" kernel boot parameter. Note that this will disable all usb ports. There may be a more fine-grained option that you can use, but I did not check a kernel of the 2.6 vintage as you are using with RHEL 6.3

The NI pxi-8840 controller consisted of Intel 4400e chipset, which supports Linux with kernel version 3.x

Here is the link supporting the above statement:

http://www.intel.in/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/platform-briefs/core-qm87-hm86-chipsets-i...

Hence, I failed to install rhel 6.3 (kernel version 2.6).

I have successfully installed rhel 7.2 in the controller.

Thank you for your timely response.
