Where can I find basic Labwindows example programs for A/D data acquisition?  All the examples I find are for Labview.

All the examples that ship with CVI can be found by means of the Example Finder (Help >> Find Examples... menu function). once you install DAQMx software you will find data acquisition examples in Hardware input and Output >> DAQMx branch of the search tree:

Note: DAQMx must be installed after CVI and support for the IDE must be selected during installation.
