Install of CVI 2020 on new W11 PC fails

Hi,

I get the following error when I try to install CVI 2020 on my new PC.

What can I do?

Hi Bertrand,

I've got the same problem and contacted NI support - if they reply I'll post back here.

First step for me was to realize that the old iso installation didn't work because NI Packages manager failed to install. This could be solved by downloading the most current version 2026 Q1 from the NI web site, and indeed this version installed without any problems.

Unfortunately, even the most basic selection (just CVI without anything else) throws an installation error...

In case: the system is Win 11 25 H2 and I had to update because I had to replace the 15 year old PC which is too old to be upgraded to Win 11.

Installing CVI 2019 with DAQmx drivers on new Win11 PC gives me a BSOD for an error similar to this one.

I uninstalled everyhting.

Maybe installing the last release of the driver is the solution (never tried).

So far I did not find a solution.

I have tried three different approaches:

- installation via the offline isofile CVI 2020 f3

- installation via the offline CVI 2020 f4 iso

- installation via NI package manager 2026 Q1

None of them worked, they consistently failed with

As it turned out it was the Smart App Control of Win 11 which had blocked this app, specifically one of the *.tmp files.

But did you finally succeed? And if yes what did you do to get rid of this Smart App Control?

No, unfortunately I did not succeed yet - I am still in contact with NI support but...

I will post again once there is some info to share

Not sure if this is the same issue, but in my case (CVI 2019 - not 2020) I've been successful in this way:

  1. download and install the last release od DAQmx drivers (2026 Q1)
  2. download and install CVI 2019 without Driver Software

Thanks Vix for the suggestion!

In this case I am trying to install the bare CVI without any drivers...
