I am running two devices, a Bertan high voltage source and a Hewlett Packard multimeter, with an GPIB-ENET/100 setup, and the Hewlett is giving an error when I address a command to the Bertan. What can I do to determine the problem?

Hewlett Packard 34870A multimeter
Bertan 225 20kV high voltage source
NI GPIB-ENET/100 ethernet to gpib connector
last gpib command was:

ibwrt (UD1,"T1",2 (0x2))

where UD1 is addressing the Bertan (UD0 addresses the HP)

If it's an instrument error the manual will be helpful. For GPIB communication refer, GPIB Error Codes and Common Solutions . I hope you have the latest GPIB driver available from http://www.ni.com/support/gpib/versions.htm. If you don't, follow the steps from www.ni.com/support/install
