Hi Carlo,
I think if NI thought about how to bring an IDE into the new world of coding, they could sell it. As a controls engineer, C is the best thing I have used, and still get a lot of power out of it.
Its GUI capabilities in Windows and speed are hard to beat, if you have something better, please share, I am genuinely interested.
I use Claude to program some very cool Python projects, stuff I could never have imagined without a good programming LLM.
I can use it for C as well, but it would be great to have it coupled with CoPilot or something, VS Code enables this pretty easy, I just need a VS Code extension for CVI.
CVI is not going away, bring it up to the AI world, and it would be very powerful.

A new Emerson/NI rep e-mailed me and I wrote back and asked about LabWindows. They responded:
"You are correct LabWindows/CVI has been discontinued for a while."
I sent them the link to this topic, so we'll see if the left hand just does not know what the right hand is doing, or if this post was bogus.

Yes you are correct the right hand knows what the left hand is doing.
@AllenInIowa I am the NI SAM that incorrectly stated that the product is discontinued. Correcting the record and moving on.

Hello Everyone,
I wanted to address the recent confusion regarding the status of CVI, we will be releasing CVI this year. We have a dedicated team working hard on CVI 2026 and I will provide more definitive timelines as the project progresses in the coming weeks.
Thank you for your patience and passion.

I'm not sure that the users that are posting here are real users.
IMHO, some of them seem fake new users, some others seem old user accounts stolen (by AI ?) to post confusing messages.
Even in other really old threads "someone" started posting answers without any apparent reason. And that users are suspicious in the aI era.
I would like having a clear official statement from NI on what happens on this community (and on this thread too).

A new Emerson rep e-mailed me at several of my e-mail addresses. I wrote them back and said we only used LabWindows, and that it appeared to be discontinued. The rep responded confirming it had been discontinued "for some time." I pointed them to this topic. A day or so later, I received an e-mail response from Xavier Dukes, which helps us confirm he does indeed work for Emerson and is not just some random forum posting troll messing with us 😉
For now, all I can tell my management is that someone e-mailing from Emerson says there will be a 2026 release. Until we see it on the website with details, it is really no more than that.
I would like to see them update the clang compiler to current standards, at the very least.
