vi developement in 5.1 or 6?

We are developing vi's for some new hardware and a debating whether to
do the development in LV version 5.1 or 6. Should we be concerned
about supplying vi's that aren't compatible with 5.1? What are others
doing.

I would say to develop in 5.1 to be on the safe side. I think there are still a number of people that have not upgraded to 6. If you develop in 5.1 at least users of 5.1 and 6 can still use them, where if you used 6 then only those with 6 or higher could use them.

If you think that other people would need to edit your vi in LV 5.l, LV 5.1 is probably the way to go. However, even if you go with LV 6, you can always use the Save for previous option that allows you to save in 5.0 format. One of the biggest considerations you will need to take into account is whether you need any of the features that LV 6 provides. You can find a list of things new to LV 6 in the following document:

Hope this helps.
