The default of gray was of course selected years ago when people's
screen resolution was a bit larger. With smaller pixels, it is easier
to spot them with a brighter color. Also, the coercion dots are placed
there simply for information. These implicit conversions are normally
not a problem, and many languages do not have any visible indication of
coercion or any warnings where they take place. So, the dots are meant
to be there for information, but for alarm. Of course you are free to
change the color to make them easier to spot if you wish.

I'm not sure I understand. If you open the Tools>Options dialog, select
the Colors page, turn off the default checkbox, and change the colors.
Selecting Make current values default has no affect on Options, but is
the correct solution if you have front panel color controls that you are
trying to give different default colors. You can do this via the
Operations menu or to individual controls with a popup>Data
Operations>Make Current Value Default.
If you still have problems, please list the version number and which
colors do not work.
