pxi 1031

Well, when my PXI starts, the last thing it says is "Welcome to LabVIEW Real-Time 15.0".  However, before that, it reports, among other things, the MAC, IP Address, and Mask of its TCP/IP port, along with other information.

Knowing this, I can easily connect it to a NIC on my PC, configure my PC to use a compatible IP range, and (among other things) Ping the controller (just a sec -- let me try -- yep, it responds, time<1ms, TTL=60).  I can also open MAX and look at Remote Systems (I've set up MAX to be able to talk to PXIs), and this system shows up.

So to diagnose and "fix" this, you really want to connect the PXI controller to your PC with Ethernet.  In a previous post, I discussed some ways to do this.  Once you can "see" your controller, you can examine/update its software and see if you can get it working (again?  did it ever work for you?).

Hello Bob_Schor,

I dont believe I fully understand how to check the software. I have tried connecting an ethernet cord from the PXI embedded controller to the ethernet port on my computer to see if this would registed the device in MAX, but had no luck. Is this the correct way to check?

Are you sure you can just connect one device to the other?  What kind of ethernet cable did you use?  If you used a cross-over ethernet cable, good.  If you used a regular ethernet cable, then it will not work unless you get lucky and either the PXI or your PC's ethernet port is auto-detecting which allows it to figure out which pins should be transmit and which are receive.  Those types of ethernet ports are coming out in newer equipment, but I don't know how common it is yet.

Unless you know, then either use a crossover cable, or connect the PC and the PXI to a network hub.

OK I do not believe that I have a crossover cable. I will look into getting one and try again.
