list variables in a VI

Hi Everybody....
This is not a programming issue, just a curiosity... does anybody know how to create a "list" or "file" with the name of all the variables (indicators and controls) that are in a VI? I have been trying to find it on the menus with no suceess :(. Thank you very much!!!

There is not a menu method to do this however you can create a simple program to do it.

See attached.

if you drop a local variable onto your block diagram from the structures palette, a left click shows controls or indicators that could be assigned to it....................but I suppose unless you do a screenshot, that list isn't recorded anywhere is it?

Evan's solution will probably do what you want.

One thing to keep in mind though: Indicators and controls are not "variables" in any classic sense and their names are not neccessarily unique. You can have several controls or indicators with the same name, and even items with blank names.

See also my earlier post on a similar subject. 😉

Hi Esther
Just for curiosity, you can take a look at this link: http://www.citengineering.com/pagesNL/labview/app.aspx
The ctrlrefs is a good example ( similar to evan´s one) of list of controls/indicators.

Cheers
Alipio
