Jeff,
I looked up Aero themes. They are for Windows Vista, 7, and 8. I am running XP. However, I will see what theme is running when I get back to the machine and will set it to "Windows classic" which is supposed to have the lowest overhead. I'll also try disabling anything else that might be interfering.
