Hi,
can I run Labview 8.2, 32 bit version under a 64 bit Windows OS like Windows 7 or Windows 8?
I also want to the NI-vision Library ans other libs.
I would like to know this before I buy a laptop with Windows 7 or 8.
Thank you.

As you can see in the NI LabVIEW Lifecycle Policy, LV 8.2 is out of mainstream support since the year 2010. Therefore, NI does not make any tests/patches for this LV version on current OSes. Also, it is not displayed anymore in the LabVIEW Operating System Support page.
So in short: It is your personal risk to install and use LV 8.2 on Windows 8.
Nevertheless, there is no specific reason why it should not work on a general scope. So it is possible that LV 8.2 works flawlessly on Windows 8.
But remember: If an issue occurs, it is YOUR issue....

EDIT: One important thing i forgot: Depending on the type of application you want to run/develop, it is possible that it won't work with 8.2 even if LV 8.2 runs on Windows 8. The reason might be that you require new(er) drivers in order to run hardware on the Windows 8 machine. These new driver are not tested with LV 8.2. It is possible that the installer of the driver does NOT recognize LV 8.2 at all which means that you have no driver API available in your LV 8.2 installation.

If you have problems with LV8.2 being incompatible with Windows 8, you could also consider running it in a Virtual Machine (e.g. VMWare, VirtualBox etc.) with an older OS (e.g. Win 7).

I was able to run LabVIEW 6.1 on Windows 8.1
Your issues will be with the NI-Vision and other libraries you'll want to use.

Hi,
that is remarkable! This means I can have good hope that Labview 8.2 will run with Windows 8.1 .
Regarding the vision library, I think I'll have to wait and see.
Thank you!

Hi bmw318,
If you want to experiment for yourself then go ahead and do it, but if you are commiting something to customer then you may be in trouble.
Officially as per NI, 8.2 does not support windows 8 so if you get stuck then NI may not be able to support you.
Good Luck!!!
