hp driver for labview for hp8156a attenuator

Since NI does not have a LV driver for this instrument have you tried checking with HP?

I'm not familiar with this instrument, but maybe someone who has used it before will have some suggestions for you.

Here is a link to the programming manual. Section 8 shows the commands. It will take some work, but you can write your own drivers.

Here is a link for other optical attenuators. Maybe these could be modified to get what you need.
