how to Application Builder for LV 7.1

I know this has been asked many times but I just need to ask one more time.

When I create an .EXE and install it to another computer I can not get it to work. The panel comes up like it should and starts running like it should but I can not get any information. What I am doing is a GPS module with LV using the serial port (com1). All of the addresses (com1) are correct just not getting information. When I use the same VI on a PC with full install of LabVIEW it works great. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Perhaps...you may need to include "Serial Port Support" during building of the installer.

Application Builder dislog...

"Installer Settings" tab> Advanced... > Select "Serial Port Support"

See if this helps.

I must still be doing something wrong. Here are the steps that I have been following.

Step 1. Open a working VI.

Step 2. Tools>Build Application or Shared Library (DLL)

Step 3. Target select a destination folder

Step 4. Build target (Select Application (EXE))

Step 5 Build Options (Select Single target file)

Step 6. Source File (select Add support file) Here I add the .llb and the .VI

Step 7. Installer Settings. I click create installer > Advanced> Serial Port Support.

Under the VI Settings Tab the Run When Opened column only has the top level .VI marked yes all others are marked no.

And what version of VISA are you using? I believe it was changed in the latest versions but older run-time versions did not create the 'Com1' alias when they were installed. The actual VISA resource name of a serial port is ASRL1::INSTR. You could try using that in your program. You can also edit the visaconf.ini file and see if the alias is there. Look at the version on your development pc for the syntax or just copy the file from the working pc to the new one. Lastly, have you verified that the port actually works on the new pc? Can you use Hyperterminal to talk to the instrument?
