file prompts itslef when attempted to be opened

THe attached .vi cannot be opened whatsover in Labview 7.1

It has been a part of a bigger program called MAIN. MAIN has been saved as a Development Distribution .llb file. Ever since, Material Selction.vi (attached) appered on the diagram as a question mark subvi box and even though I've tried replacing it it doesn't work and cannot be saved.

Obviously the MAIN vi cannot work without it.

Could anyone help me retrieve the block diagram from that VI?

thanks in advance

Hi majico,

this happens sometimes when a vi was not saved properly.
Btw. LabView 8.2 says: 'The resource was created in a more recent version and cannot be opened' - which is interesting as there shouldn't be a more recent version than 8.2.

Probably your vi has gone mad and is not recoverable (or maybe by help of NI?).
You surely have a backup to restore the vi or whole project!
Best regards,

yes - like Leslie Nielsen used to say: Stop calling me shirley (surely). I have no backup copy. Labview is one of those programming softwares that have the magic powers of Ctrl+Z and a copy of any VI being programmed is hardly ever needed.

Anyway - have you tried adding it to a block diagram via the funcion panel?

Last time I tried it a warning dialog box popped up wihtout any title saying: "Not enough memory to complete this operation" And it is definietly not a RAM problem.

wellm thank you for a quick response.

maybe others with similar cases post some other suggestions..

Hi majico,

'the undo-powers' don't save you from harddrive-crashes, viruses, users accidently hitting DEL-key (and much more to come).
So next time you should do a backup - I do this weekly...

No, I didn't try to use your vi as subvi, as this usually results in the same file dialog...
Best regards,
GerdW
