desktop pc hardware compatibility

Hi,

we have a desktop PC-based RT system that we built a few years ago. When we built the system we had hardware problems- the target's network adapter we used, though being in the compatibility list (82574L chipset), did not work when RAM was more than 2GB. This was solved with the kind help of NI support (Danny Diaz), who sent me a patch driver that solved the issue. The system worked well since then.

unfortunately we had to re-install the system recently due to HD expiry. we encountered the same problem (apparently the bug was not fixed in subsequent RT module versions), but this time the patch didn't worked. we found another compatible network adapter (broadcom BCM5751 chpiset) and now we have communication, but we have many TCP-IP failures, the CPUs are at 95% use and the system is unstable.

we decided to upgrade the system- newer processor (we're currently using old Core2 Duo), and a new network adapter. the compatiblity list you have on the web seems very outdated- ivy bridge, for instance, is hard to come by today. also, our vendors do not offer systems with as little as 4GB RAM. can you please assist us with finding an available machine that is known to be compatible?

thanks,

avner

What is your application? It seems to me that you might be ahead of the game to simply replace this patched-together system with a cRIO or two. The reduced frustration factor alone might make the change worthwhile.

Hi Mike,

thanks for your reply.

The application includes data acquisition (2 multi-DAQs for DIO, AO and Ai) and image acquisition (NI frame grabber). it handles both recording, stimulation and control in scientific experiments.

we don't have the money nor the time to convert the entire system into cRIO.

Hi avnerw,

You need to meet the LabVIEW minimum requirements that are specified in the following document.

System Requirements for NI LabVIEW Development Systems and LabVIEW Modules
http://www.ni.com/labview/requirements/

In addition to that, for the LabVIEW 2013 Real-Time module you will need the requirements specified in the following document

LabVIEW 2013 Real-Time Module Readme
http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/971BBCC5FF4E1ECA86257B7C004F84C9#sysreq

Which LabVIEW Real-Time version do you have?

Warm Regards,
